Solstad Offshore and Solstad Maritime have signed an intentional agreement to expand their existing UniSea implementation to include the full technical suite, adding Maintenance, Procurement, Maindeck, Inspections and Electronic LogBooks to complement their existing HSEQ and Operations suite of modules. The expansion creates a fully integrated fleet management system across the company's global operations.

Achieving the same level of performance

The decision comes as Solstad wants to achieve the same level of performance and integration on the technical side that they have experienced with UniSea's other modules. With the success of their current UniSea implementation, the company wanted to bring that same quality and effectiveness to their technical systems.

From fragmented to unified operations

Beyond performance consistency, the expansion addresses the challenges of managing separate systems across different areas of operation. Rather than juggling multiple disconnected platforms for technical and operational needs, Solstad will now operate from a single, unified system that eliminates data silos and reduces administrative overhead.

"As a global maritime leader, we recognize the importance of extracting synergies from a fully integrated system," says Tor Johan Tveit, COO of Solstad. "Having experienced excellent results with our existing modules, we wanted to achieve that same level of effectiveness across our technical operations."

Maritime expertise driving software development

UniSea's approach to software development reflects deep maritime expertise, with solutions designed by professionals who understand the realities onboard a vessel, and combining this with the central management needs for larger fleets, all in one easy to use system. The Maintenance module follows a "for crew, by crew" philosophy, ensuring that systems work intuitively for the people who use them daily aboard vessels.

The module's focus on preventative maintenance particularly appeals to offshore operators like Solstad, where vessel downtime in remote locations can be extremely costly. By enabling preventative maintenance scheduling and early issue identification, the platform helps maintain vessel availability in demanding operational environments.

"UniSea's focus on user-friendly software that not only works but is also intuitive for all stakeholders involved was crucial to our decision," notes Tveit. "For a global maritime leader with complex operations, it's critical to have software that supports rather than complicates those operations."

The Maindeck module further exemplifies this user-focused approach by allowing the Superintendent to manage the actual dry-docking project rather than wrestling with complex software interfaces. This philosophy resonates with global leaders like Solstad, where success depends on tools that support rather than complicate daily work.

Strategic partnership expansion

The technical module expansion builds on the partnership that began with HSEQ and Operations suite of modules. Rather than seeking separate vendors for technical functions, Solstad's decision to extend their existing UniSea relationship shows the value they place on platform integration and vendor consolidation.

"We're proud to support Solstad's technical modernization process with our solutions," says Kurt Roar Vilhelmsen, CEO of UniSea. "When companies choose to expand their implementation with additional modules, it demonstrates confidence in both our platform's capabilities and our commitment to continuous improvement."

"UniSea’s continuous and frequent software improvements have given us confidence that we have a partner we can trust to deliver in the long run," notes Tveit.

Proven platform

UniSea's Maintenance module received DNV Class Approval in early 2025 following extensive collaboration with maritime professionals and rigorous testing aboard working vessels. The certification process validated the platform's ability to meet established maritime industry standards.

Following the approval, companies including Buksér & Berging, Dong Fang Offshore, Napier, Eidesvik Offshore, Fjord1, Massterly, and Pan Marine have implemented UniSea's Maintenance module. Solstad's expansion adds to this growing client base utilizing the class-approved planned maintenance system.

Small-town innovation serves global markets

Both UniSea and Solstad share roots in Skudeneshavn, a coastal Norwegian town of 3,000 inhabitants that has become an unlikely hub of maritime innovation. The small community's rich maritime heritage, derived from its role as a key fishing port in the 1800s, has created an environment where both companies developed global expertise. This deep-rooted maritime understanding helps explain why UniSea's solutions work so effectively with companies like Solstad.
